Telecommunications Overview

RedFlow’s compact, reliable zinc-bromine modules (ZBMs) deliver cost efficient, consistent electricity for stand alone power systems, specifically those operated by remote telecommunications providers.

With GSM operators worldwide relying on expensive diesel generation as a primary source of electrical power at remote telecommunications sites where utility power is unavailable, there is a pressing need to find better substitutes for power supply.

Moreover, the majority of greenhouse gas emissions within the mobile phone industry come from diesel-equipped base stations.

The lead-acid batteries used in some base transceiver station (BTS) installations are often regarded as high cost and short lived components in the daily cycling environment.

Typically, the average electrical load for a BTS is 1 kW to 3 kW, a size which is well within the capability of a 5 kW RedFlow ZBM-based energy storage system. Even for sites where renewable electricity supply is not an option, the use of RedFlow ZBMs can help reduce diesel fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

RedFlow ZBMs configured for remote telecommunications applications significantly reduce generator running time by collecting excess generated energy from the (generally) oversized diesel generators.
