Our Knowhow
RedFlow is applying its world leading zinc bromine battery technology to kilowatt-scale electrical energy storage systems.
We are all familiar with storage of electricity at a small scale - just think of the AA battery in your camera, or recharging your cellphone for later use. In fact, our modern world would not be recognisable without these modern small scale batteries.
But, at much larger scale (kilowatt or household scale), those tiny batteries from your cellphone are simply uneconomic.
What RedFlow is doing is developing new battery technology in the form of zinc bromine (ZBM) flow batteries which are cost effective, reliable, long lived and safe for use in utility and solar PV applications.
So in the future, when you turn on your air-conditioning unit, it may well be powered by a RedFlow ZBM battery. If so, it will be a cost effective and environmentally sensitive solution for your local electricity distribution company.
| Energy Storage Primer | Zinc Bromine Basics |
Energy storage means banking some form of energy for later use. In our modern world, we are used to energy convenience, and that means energy on tap. |
The zinc bromine battery, like all other batteries, uses an electro-chemical reaction to store energy and then release energy as electricity. |
| Zinc Bromine vs Lead Acid | Control & Communications Systems |
It is useful to compare the zinc bromine battery with its lead acid counterpart. Lead acid batteries are well known to most people. |
RedFlow's Power+BOS® ZB and LA systems are packaged with integrated control and communications systems. |
| Our Patents & IP | Environmental Benefits |
Our intellectual property centres on RedFlow's zinc bromine battery where we have improved the design for better performance and ease of manufacture. |
Among the many advantages of the zinc bromine battery, its environmental credentials rank highly. |
